This is a preliminary survey paper which cou1d be the basis for a Project on the
Monetary History of Argentina. The authors wou1d appreciate comments. The authors express
their appreciation for the financia1 support received from the Argentine Association of Banks
(ADEBA) for the project, which permitted forming a research team composed of Marcela
Harriague (UTDT) and Sandra Amuso (UTDT), who were responsible for statistical investigation
and informatic support. We also thank Leticia Montiel, Daniela Ramos and Diego Bueno for their
assistance in the constmction of the time series.
